MEET THE TRANSLATOR

Heidi Terese Vangen

I am a wordy person living in Bergen, one of the rainiest places in Norway.

I have worked as a translator since 2020 and love that I get to immerse myself in a world of words every day and help people and their businesses in the process.

[ˈʊfdə] • interjection

An exclamation of Norwegian origin brought to the US by Scandinavian settlers. It expresses mild dismay when faced with bad news or an unfortunate event.

Similar to 'ouch!', 'oh no!' or 'oh dear!'.

UFF DA!

What does uff da even mean?

A single typo or misused word can instantly distract the reader from otherwise brilliant copy. That's what I call 'uff da moments'.

In fact, being a fairly soft spoken person, 'uff da' is my go-to exclamation when something bad happens. If I spill my iced latte or see a really bad translation, I go: Uff da!

But let's avoid any uff da moments in your content. I want you to stand out for the quality of your written word, not because of cringeworthy translations or grammar mistakes.
